I went to the doctors yesterday just for a check up/physical I am a 16 year old guy who happens to be gay. When it got to the part about drugs and personal questions and sex he asked me about the opposite sex, I didn’t know what he meant, he said do you like girls and I just blurted out yes. I’m not out of the closet, not one person knows. I was wondering why he asked me that and what would he have done if I said I was gay. I’m just sort of curious/confused why he asked me this really.

Answer

Actually, he would have said nothing. As a doctor, he asks those question so he can get an idea of who you are and how to treat you. Since you are a gay man, your lifestyle will differ from a man who is heterosexual.

If the doctor is a true professional your sexual orientation will not matter a hill of beans to the doctor; he just wants to have accurate information so that he may be of service to you and your health needs. Be honest with the healthcare man, so he can be of help.
